About Tarnetar Fair

Tarnetar Fair represents the most awaited day in the life of inhabitants of Tarnetar village in which they flock around the Trineteshwar Temple at Saurashtra. It only takes place during the Gujararti Months Bhadarva of Thangadh dedicated to the supreme feat of archery performed by Arjuna and finally won the "Swayamwar".

The most famous fair in Gujarat is undoubtedly the Tarnetar Fair. The Tarnetar fair is visited by more than 50,000 people from all over the State, country and abroad.

The Tarnetar Fair is a "Lokmela" (people's fair)in its true sense. The principal attraction of this fair is the spontaneous folk music and folk dances of the Saurashtra region. There are many tattoo(chhundana) artists and barbers, magicians and madaris. Merry-go-round, circus, photography studios are some of the modern attractions. More than two hundred women perform Garba in a sing circule on the thrillng beats of four drums at a time and to the heart filling tunes of the jodiya pavas (the double flutes).

It is very exciting motivates you to rejoice in Gujarat folk dance and music. In 2011, you will be able to experience free-fall into a wild wind of colors, music and romance around tribal youths looking for perfect life partners. They dress up in gaudy clothes including dhotis, striking turbans, and the use of Tarnetra Chhatirs (umbrellas) highlighted with exaggerated embroidery and mirror works point towards the bachelor tribal males. Further, if any girl stop by and begins a close talk with her chosen guy that ultimately hints that she is very much interested in marrying him.

However, some other attractions of the fair to fix your attention for long are the graceful performances of garba, ras, hudo, etc. on the sounds of drums. Buy rural handicrafts, observe cattle shows and other competitive sports which are exclusively organized to entertain you.
