Held in the holy town of Ajmer in honour of the Sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, special prayers are offered at the mosque, and huge amounts of consecrated food offered from the large, steaming cauldrons that were a gift from Akbar. While quwwallis are sung at night, the celebrations unite people of all faiths, and the complete town is decorated with buntings, and wears the spirit of festivity.
It is an occasion for thousands of believers to congregate at the shrine and offer their prayers. All of Ajmer seems to take on a festive air and several programmes are organized to mark the festivals.
The final resting place for 'Gharib-Nawaz', Moinuddin Chishti is located in Ajmer. People of all religions visit the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The Khwaja left for heavenly abode in 1256 AD after a six day prayer in seclusion. These six days are celebrated every year as the annual Urs, which is attended by innumerable pilgrims irrespective of their faith. The shrine is considered to be a place of wish fulfillment for those who pray with devout and pure hearts. It is said that Emperor Akbar sought blessings for his son at the Dargah.

Urs Festival of Shrine Dargah Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmer Sharif is Mostly called by different names by the Pilgrims / Devotees through out the world, such as.. Urs Khwaja Gharib Nawaz, Urs Khwaja Ajmeri, Urs Dargah Khwaja Sahib, Urs Dargah khwaja Saheb, Urs Khwaja Baba, Urs Chatti Sharif, Urs Sharif Ajmer, Urs Dargah Sharif Ajmer, Urs Shrine Ajmer, Urs Chishti, Urs Sufi, Urs Ajmer Sharif, Urs Ajmer Dargah Urs, Urs Darbar Sharif Ajmer Rajasthan, India.
The Dargah Sharif Ajmer, located at the foot of a barren hill, is the place where the Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti mortal remains lie buried. The Dargah (tomb) with a marble dome is situated in the center of a courtyard and is surrounded by a silver platform. It's believed that the shrine is a place of wish fulfillment for those who pray with devout and pure hearts. People of all religious faiths visit the Dargah and make offerings of rose and jasmine flowers to seek the blessings of the Khawaja. Millions of devotees from all over the world visit the Dargah to pay homage to Khawaja on Urs Ajmer Shareef, the solemn memory of Khawaja. The revered saint left for heavenly abode after a six-day prayer in seclusion and for this their devotees celebrate 'Urs Ajmer Shariff' every year during the first six days of Rajjab, the 7th month of the Islamic calendar.
Chadar; Ghilaph & Neema which are votive offerings for the tomb are offered by several hundred thousand devotees. An interesting ritual is the looting of Kheer (Milk Pudding) which is cooked in two large cauldrons called Degs and distributed to the devotees as tabarruk (blessed food). One of the main attractions at the Dargah is the qawwali programs organized during the famous annual 'Urs Ajmer Shareif' festival. Mehfils & Qawwalis are held and mass prayer calls for the eternal peace of the mankind. Professional singers called 'qawwals' sing songs in praise of the saint in a characteristic high-pitched voice. The 'Sufiana kalam' sung by these artists make a spellbound effect on listeners prompting them to clap to the rhythm of musical instruments.
